Site Cuts

A site cut is the excavation work that creates a level building platform on your block before construction begins. If your block has any slope or variation in level, a site cut is almost always required before footings can be laid. It removes high spots and, where possible, balances the cut material across the site to build up low areas. Most new homes, extensions, sheds and commercial buildings on anything other than a perfectly flat block need one.

Cost depends on the size of the platform, the fall across the block, soil type, and how much spoil needs to be removed from site. A modest residential site cut on a gently sloping block is a very different job to a large commercial pad on a steep block with hard rock. Where a significant amount of material needs to be removed, we coordinate spoil cartage as part of the scope so you are not left with a pile of dirt on site.

Most residential site cuts take one to three working days depending on the size of the platform, soil conditions and the amount of spoil being removed. Larger commercial pads or sites with difficult access or hard material can run longer. We confirm a programmed start and finish date as part of the quote so your builder knows when the site will be ready.
