Lara sits on the flat volcanic plain between Geelong and the You Yangs, and it has been growing fast on new estate land. The ground is mostly level, so the retaining work here tends to come from what the developer did rather than what nature did: pad levels between neighbouring lots, batters left from the estate earthworks, and garden terracing on blocks that were cut and filled before anyone moved in.
Select Civil Group works Lara out of our Geelong base. On estate ground the important thing is knowing where the fill stops, because a wall founded in loose fill is a wall that moves, so we build to the engineer's design with drainage behind it.
